Science Improves Productivity
A Video Summary from “The Science of Productivity”
With the increase in demands on our time, what are we doing
about it? Science has shown us how we can be more effective.
1.
Just Start It
Studies have shown that the best
way to get things done is to just get started. The video identifies the trend
that when we start a project, we are more inclined to see that project through
and be more productive with our time. It is called the Zeigarnik Effect.
2.
Recognize and deal with distractions
Once we get started on a project,
our mind tends to focus on the hardest part of that particular project and
reject working on the project by doing small tasks and “keeping busy”.
3.
Focus and Reward
If you focus your attention on the
task at hand, you will be more productive. Seems like a no-brainer, but simply
trying to focus will be less effective if we try to focus without giving
ourselves a break. Make sure to set milestones and reward yourself for
accomplishing those milestones.
4.
Schedule and Document
Plan your day before it starts.
Set up deadlines and lists of tasks to accomplish. This will give your
structure and goals. This will also help you to break up that large overwhelming
tasks, into easier sections to help you move forward. As you track your
progress toward these goals, you will recognize all menial tasks. This will
also help you to avoid multi-tasking.
By applying some of these techniques, you will be able to
manage your time more effectively and get more out of your day. Thanks for
reading and watching, now practice practice practice and you’ll be a time
management master!
